What is the Pathfinder R51 Snorkel and What Does It Do? The Pathfinder R51 Snorkel is a custom-designed air intake system for Nissan Pathfinder R51 models manufactured between 2005-2014. Mounted on or in place of your vehicle's standard air filter, this system draws the clean air the engine needs from a much higher level, near the vehicle's roofline. This allows your engine to operate much more safely on dusty dirt roads, muddy terrain, or in puddles. Especially during water crossings, when waves splash water onto the hood, it prevents water from entering the air filter. This eliminates the risk of hydrostatic lock, significantly reducing the chance of ruining your engine by ingesting water. It also extends filter life in dusty environments, as air taken from higher up is cleaner than the dense dust cloud near the ground. Which Vehicles Is It Compatible With? This snorkel is compatible only with all engine options, diesel and gasoline, of the Nissan Pathfinder R51 (DBA-NP300 or similar chassis codes) between the 2005-2014 model years. Whether your vehicle has the 2.5 dCi diesel or 4.0 V6 gasoline engine is irrelevant.
