The second leg of the İSOFF Challenge series, organized in memory of our İSOFF member, Kenan Collissanturk, who passed away this year, was run on the Ciftalan track on Sunday, September 5th. As the race was worthy of its name, while the race was colored with new challenges and double rivalries, the master athletes gave a great performance, the new athletes stood out from the old ones and took the podium.
Teams competing with Can-Am X3 took the first 3 places in the qualifying rounds. Ali Çetin-Ayşe Çetin with 4:01, Abdullah Turgut-Armağan Altun with 4:05 and Derin Doğaner-Ali Doğaner with 4:12 became the fastest names in the qualifying rounds.
In the first qualifiers, 18 teams were lined up on the starting line. The 4.7 kilometer stage started with a steep ramp after the Start level, and featured sequential bumps, steep long ramp descents, tight bends, and long straights that allowed both speed and vehicles to pass each other. The first qualifying rounds would be run as 10 rounds and the 16 teams with the best time would qualify to start in the second eliminations.
The rocky and uneven ground caused many teams to have tire problems. Some teams punctured tires twice during the stage. Aziz Görkan-Göksel Günaydın, Cihangir Aydın-Tolga Ak and Abdullah Turgut-Armagan Altun had a tire burst and had to enter the service during the race. When Abdullah Turgut’s service team performed the tire change at an extraordinary speed, the team quickly returned to the race despite the time lost and finished the stage in second place. Derin Doğaner-Ali Doğaner made the best time at the end of the first qualifying round. Abdullah Turgut-Armağan Altun and Kubilay Tüfekçi-Nihat Keskin followed him. Abdullah Turgut-Armağan Altun team realized that their tires were not suitable after the first lap. Yağız First , who was out of the race in the qualifying round, gave his own vehicle’s tires to the rival team as a good example of offroad solidarity.
13 teams started the second qualifying round. In the stage, which was run as 8 laps, the dose of excitement started to increase gradually. The most spectacular sight in this lap was the team of Berk İşeri-Hayı Tonoğlu , racing with the 1300 engine Suzuki, overtaking the team of Mehmet Tüfekçioğlu-Uğur Tepe , racing with the Mitsubishi 2.5, on the straight. At the end of the Second Qualifying Round, 10 teams finished. Derin Doğaner-Ali Doğaner , Abdullah Turgut-Armağan Altun and Burak Ayvaz-Semih Noyan made the best times in one second each.
After the eliminations, which witnessed breathtaking rivalries, 8 teams started the final race. The race was filled with double struggles that were very exciting to watch. While small touches caused the excitement to increase even more, Abdullah Turgut-Armağan Altun was the first to see the checkered flag. Burak Ayvaz-Semih Noyan team won the second place with DeToro 5700. Derin Doğaner-Ali Doğaner came in third with Can-Am X3. Devrim Öztürk-İsmail Koçali team is 100 meters from the finish. Tarık Gökbay-Selçuk Dayangaç passed his team and saw the checkered flag in fourth place. Despite the increasing storm and wind, the award ceremony was held with high participation and the trophies were presented to the winning teams by the race and Federation officials.
